Thank you Jenai for spending much of your time writing, encouraging and coming alongside others... you do it with excellence. You asked about others that encourage and who we listen to... I love Scott the Painter, https://www.scottericksonart.com/ and I often listen to Cheryl Fletcher's sermons at Menlo. She has often been there for me.

Loved the comment about Pharoah, Philistines, and Pharisees. It offered a sense of historical identity with those who have suffered. Beautifully put.

Thank you so much! (And, as a teaser, that's what the book I hope to send out into the world is all about—identifying with historical figures in the bible who weathered abuse and suffering.)

This is so good Jenai. Your words are so encouraging and healing. I am Vietnamese and my children are half Asian and half Caucasian. I listened to your interview with Julie Roy and have followed you since then. You have a gift of writing.

This right here is something I wish more church folks would take time to understand :”However, proclaiming “not all pastors” does nothing to heal deep wounds inflicted by some. Some do bite. Some do hurt. Some do wound, harm, and abuse—intentional or not. Many of us have the scars to prove it.”

I enjoyed reading this so much. I am going to share it with a few folks as well.

I am also terrified of snakes; your experience is the stuff of my nightmares. The church I attend was actually Holy Spirit led to be a place where those who were wounded in the church could come and feel safe. This is a sad issue that the sheep are being wounded by their shepherds. If you haven’t heard of her, KJ Ramsey addresses this in her new book THE LORD IS MY COURAGE. Thank you for your willingness to speak up. The snake uses shame to keep things hidden, but Jesus has claimed our victory and He is the Light Who overcomes the darkness.

First...that house at the bottom of the waterfall in the Scottish Highlands...100%

Second...snakes that fly and bite while friends laugh? No thanks. *shudders*

Third...safe houses burdening the weary with homemade crosses by "not all" modern Pharaohs... This is exactly what the church should not be.

April and I went to the same schools together, but we didn't stay close after the snake stuff, 😂 .

The more I think about the cross of Jesus, the more I realize some Pharisees are trying to lay those crosses on us.

There is complete truth in these words Jenai and I am grateful. I often wonder if I will ever heal from the snakes I encountered. And this is harsh but I detest the “not all pastors” commentary. In most cases it only takes one to wound for life. Thank you for your thoughtfulness in acknowledging the wounds. 🙏🏻🕯🕊🤍💚 Susan

Not harsh at all. I think a lot of people are irked when they hear, "not all pastors," because it is likely very dismissing to what was said previously. Thank you for always reading, Susan. 🙏
